Sundance
hosts open house for the Center
New Center for Social Media Initiatives
Announced
This year's Sundance Film Festival
honored the newly formed Center for Social Media with an open house
at its House of Docs.
"We believe your Center represents an important new resource
for the field of documentary," Nicole Guillemet, co-director
of the Sundance Film Festival, told Center Director Pat Aufderheide.
At the Open House, Aufderheide announced collaborations with a variety
of organizations, including: A project with The
Council on Foundations to design an institute on media for funders;
archiving of public TV organizations P.O.V.'s
and The Independent Television Service's
pioneering work on broadcast outreach; affiliation with The
International Documentary Association, to cosponsor events in
the Washington, D.C. area.
The House of Docs, inaugurated last year at Sundance, celebrates the
work of documentary filmmakers, as well as programmers, distributors,
outreach coordinators and other essential people in the effort to
connect with audiences. The House of Docs, which runs throughout the
festival, features panels, forums, discussions and open houses on
topics that range from marketing tips to women's films to grassroots
campaigning to international collaborations. The House of Docs has
become a home at Sundance for filmmakers who strive to make media
with a social purpose.
"Our open house will let us tell our community of makers, supporters,
audience-builders and activists about the Center," Aufderheide
said . "It also provides this community, which makes up the heart
and soul of the documentary field, to meet and find others of like
spirit." |
